Building on Your Faith
By Building

Congregations of all sizes can partner with the Lincoln/Lancaster County Habitat for Humanity in a variety of ways. That partnership works best when we can help your church carry out its goals for ministry. Volunteering on the job site is one of many ways to help.  To learn more about the variety of financial support opportunities, click here.

What Is God Calling Your Church To Do?
Consider these possibilities:

    Pray
"Unless the Lord builds the house, the work of the builders is useless." Psalm 127:1.  Without the continuing prayers of millions of people, Habitat's work could not continue.

Volunteer

  • Provide devotions at the work site or lunch time entertainment from your music ministry.
  • Provide in-kind goods and services. For example, a plumber in your congregation might volunteer to do the plumbing work on a Habitat house.
  • Provide construction site labor. All skill levels are welcome.  What you don't know we'll teach you.  Learn what to expect at the job site and check current build schedule.
  • Adopt a project.  Provide labor for a specific project (painting, planting, etc.)
  • A Brush With Kindness - Help Habitat owners maintain the exteriors of their homes with painting, minor exterior repairs, landscaping, weatherization, and exterior clean-up.  To ensure that families live in safe and well-maintained homes, this program is designed to revitalize the appearance of the neighborhood, encourage connections within the community, and most importantly, help preserve affordable housing stock.
  • Provide lunch at the construction site or serve as site hosts.  Learn about providing food or site hosting.

Advocate

  • Learn how working with Habitat can fulfill your mission goals. Invite a Habitat representative to speak to your congregation, ruling body, or Mission/Outreach Committee about its ministry.  Request a visit to your congregation.
  • Find the member of your congregation that feels called to this housing ministry to serve as an advocate and liaison for Habitat’s mission within your faith community. Work with a Habitat representative to educate and support your advocate.
  • Raise awareness within your congregation of the need for adequate housing and encourage them to become involved as individuals. Include information about Habitat's mission in your church newsletters and sermons.   Read news about us.
  • Provide literature about Habitat's ministry where you display information.  Request brochures, our on-line or printed newsletter.
  • Link to our website, www.lincolnhabitat.org, from your church site.
  • Serve on Habitat Committees. Individuals are always needed to help with acquiring land, finding and selecting qualified homeowner applicants, nurturing family partners, recruiting church support and more.
  • Provide a conference room in which Habitat committees can meet.
  • Engage your youth in the joy of local mission work through participation.  Age appropriate ideas for youth.
