Hello everyone:

Work on the builds seems to be coming along nicely and as planned. Therefore, construction volunteers will be able to put in a little time tomorrow on two different sites.

The home at 1717 'A' Street is ready for interior paint. This home is on a fast track to get completed because of funding guidelines which state that funding for the entire home will be dispersed only if the home is completed by August 1st. This leaves us with a small window here, so tomorrow I'm hoping to power through this painting with the help of a small group of 5 -6 volunteers from Assurity Life Insurance Company. I could also use the help of a couple other volunteers that are handy with a paint brush and roller. Jerry's been more than helpful getting the benches, step ladders and leftover paint stuff from Arlington set up on site, and I will bring the rest.

In addition, there are a few odds and ends of framing and other loose ends to tie up on the job at 2621 N. 43rd Street (The Women Build).

Lunch is to be provided by one of our current families waiting for their home to be started. We will serve lunch in the warehouse.

Thanks! ...I sure hope I get a couple of painters :)

Wow! The Women Build wall raising went very smoothly and as planned thanks to the organization and pre-planning of our wonderful work crews...and what a great group of pictures in the Lincoln Sunday paper!

Also, thanks to Tom's (our site Supervisor) quick thinking, we were able to show Lowe's the level of dedication and gratitude to them as partners by purchasing the house wrap from Lowe's--there certainly is no mistaking who sponsored this build day.

Work for tomorrow will continue on this site. Jerry has plenty of tasks to assign, and with Tom gone, he will need the help.

Hello friends and community partners:

Spring is here and that means that there are a TON of great activities to go to, and be a part of in Lincoln from now until the end of summer. So please believe me when I say how honored we are here at L/LC Habitat for Humanity to see so many volunteers come out every single Saturday to be a part of our volunteer program--helping to fulfill our mission. What a blessing!

Tomorrow, the construction volunteers will be starting out at the warehouse. I have a group of volunteers from Prairieview Church and a few other individuals who will be here at 7:45 a.m. for their new volunteer and safety orientation. After that, Jerry and Bob will be asking for a few volunteers to accompany them to 1717 'A' Street to scrap-out drywall there. While that crew is at 'A' Street, Tom will lead the church group in building walls for the next house.

I think Terry took care of most of my "odds and ends" list today with the exception of applying a coat or two of poly to the mini Habitat house donation containers. Thanks Terry!

Hello Everyone:

I would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest sympathy for the loss of our loyal and truly faithful and reliable passageway between our two warehouse spaces. This carefully thought up and skillfully crafted, oversized door was handmade by our very own Habitat Site Supervisor and former Construction Manager Tom Scott and Burt Muehling. It will be missed! However, as the saying goes, "...for out of the ashes, there is risen anew...," a great new door is to be assembled, and set in its place, and the warehouse will once again be mighty and true. Thanks for the memories :)

Now down to business. The trim crew will continue to plug along out at 1141 Geranium Drive. I believe they're almost done, which means that this home is almost complete and nearly ready for its new occupants, Abdul and Eqbal and their three children. Another great accomplishment for our dedicated volunteers!

Jerry is in need of two or three volunteers to help him out at 2908 W. Arlington Street. The drywall is being taped here, and tomorrow it is time to do the first round of sanding. I know it's not the most glamorous job, but when you're done you'll know for sure you've completed a full, hard day's work.

First thing tomorrow, Tom is going to need some volunteers to help him load up walls and get them delivered out to the site of our next wall raising--The Women Build Project--located at 2621 N. 43rd Street. After the walls are delivered out there, the crews will come back to the warehouse to finish installing the new overhead door between the warehouse spaces and finish up the day with some wall framing after lunch.

Lunch tomorrow will be provided by Sam's Club and will be delivered and eaten at the warehouse.

Odds & Ends:

A few odds & ends to keep in mind for the next few volunteer days include three items noted from our six month walk-thru at 4611 W. Whisperwood Street (Mabior & Sarah Denget's home).

1. Water is leaking into the basement bedroom from the perimeter of the egress window when it rains. (more caulking perhaps is needed?)

2. The towel bar in the bathroom fell off the wall the first time he hung a towel on it. I looked at it and assessed that it needed a special tiny screwdriver to tighten it to its brackets. If that is not the problem, maybe a replacement from the warehouse would be an option.

3. One of our lock boxes is still attached to the front porch post. I attempted to remove it myself, but I could not get it to open using the normal combination.

One last task that I would appreciate someone taking on for me would be to give the mini Habitat House donation containers, built by Tom (Master Craftsman) Scott a coat or two of poly. They turned out so nice that I want them to be as protected from the elements as possible. They are located in the warehouse against the North wall where the paint is stored.

On Saturday, we had three great groups of volunteers, including the regulars, that lent us their time and their talents for the day, and together, we were able to get a good deal of work on the home at 2908 W. Arlington Street completed. However, work will be continuing there tomorrow morning, as there is still a bit of drywall to hang. Along with the drywall, it will be necessary to touch-up any needed exterior paint as well as tear down and store the scaffolding.

Some of you may remember Molly Sukup, last year's Women Build homeowner. She will be providing lunch tomorrow and serving it in the warehouse, after which a few miscellaneous tasks are scheduled to be done here in the warehouse, including receiving the next lumber delivery and deciding the best location for the donated lock sets and putting them away.

We may also start a small remodeling project that we've been planning on for inside the warehouse, which includes relocating a portion of the bathroom wall in order to accommodate a overhead garage door.

It looks like the weather forecast could be a repeat of last Saturday--dry in the morning with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. If no storms come our way however, it should be a nice, warm afternoon. So tomorrow the construction volunteers will be working at 2908 W. Arlington Street.

As you recall, I have two groups of volunteers coming to lend Habitat a hand on Saturday. The first group is coming all the way from Omaha to put in some community service through their company, Leo A. Daly (an Architecture, Planning and Engineering Firm). The second is a Fraternity group from UNL. I'm expecting 9 or 10 from each in the morning then tapering off in the afternoon.
