About the
Thrivent Financial - Lincoln/Lancaster County Habitat for Humanity Program
As part of a national program, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has joined with Lincoln/Lancaster County Habitat for Humanity to build homes for families in need right here in Lincoln. This year, Thrivent Financial is providing $56,265 to sponsor our build at 2901 W. Arlington St. Lincoln area Lutheran congregations and all people of good will are invited to be part the Habitat/Thrivent mission to help eliminate unsafe poverty housing in our community by donating $10,200 in matching funds.
Habitat families pay back the full cost of construction materials needed to build their home through a no-profit, no-interest mortgage. Homeowners must invest hundreds of "sweat equity" hours into the construction of their home. The sweat equity is used in lieu of a down payment. Volunteers in partnership with the homeowner family build the home. Mortgage payments are recycled into the building fund which is used for the construction of more homes. Donations from individuals, corporations, churches and organizations dedicated to housing issues are used to purchase materials and pay for licensed labor.
